The fall weather is here and we are gearing up for the shifting seasons on the Ledge. Sweet potatoes are still growing well and will start being pulled towards the end of the month. We are seeding our winter crops of kale, swiss chard, spinach, radishes, and carrots in the greenhouses. Fall is the season of abundance, take advantage and eat as much local produce while you still can!
Long pie pumpkins are in this week. Long pies are an oblong sugar pumpkin known for their thick flesh and sweet flavor. They have a small seed cavity and less stringy flesh than most sugar pumpkins, leading to great yields when cooking or making pumpkin puree. They make the sweetest and smoothest pies and breads of any pie pumpkin.
This week we will be at the Bedford farmers market on Tuesday from 3-6pm, the Peterborough farmers market on Wednesday from 3-6pm, the Merrimack farmers market at The Stables at Anheuser-Busch on Thursday from 4-7pm, and the Milford farmers market on Saturday from 10am-1pm.
