Happy October everyone! Fall is in full swing and we are getting some colder temperatures on the farm this week, inching closer and closer to a frost. Here’s what you need to know this week:
This week’s hot item:
- Sweet potatoes are in, they will be done drying and ready for order after Tuesday
- Damaged winter squash are still available, free of charge
Fall weather and crops:
- Many fall vegetables actually get tastier when they’ve gone through a frost; kale, carrots, and brussels sprouts all get a distinct sweetness from the cold!
- Production is decreasing as we lose sunlight and warmth, but there’s still lots of great options for the season
Farmers markets this week:
- Bedford farmers market Tuesday 3-6pm (2 markets left)
- Peterborough farmers market Wednesday 3-6pm (3 markets left before indoor market begins)
- Milford farmers market Saturday 10am-1pm (1 markets left)
