We will be checking the sweet potatoes this week to see how big they are. If they are good size we will start to harvest. They need at least a week of 80 degree temperatures to sure them. This changes the starch to sugar. I put them in the greenhouse for a week to do this.
Regular potatoes should be ready too. They can be eaten right after harvesting. Curing them will help them if being stored but we sell almost all of them right away as new potatoes.
This fall potato crop will have Carola, Yukon Gold, Red Chieftain, and Elba. They will be on the menu by next week.
This turning out to be a cold late summer/fall time. Tomatoes and peppers have already stopped producing. We still have Brussels Sprouts to harvest, and sweet potatoes. Greens do very well in this weather.
